About

Dr Saxena is currently working as Executive Director of Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiologyat the Escorts Heart Institute & Research Centre. He has one of the largest experiences in Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiologyin India, including catheter ablation, ICD implantation and biventricular pacing.

Fortis Escorts Heart Institute is the largest and most advanced cardiac hospital in the Indian subcontinent. The hospital has fully evolved departments of noninvasive, invasive, and nuclear cardiology, and cardiac surgery. It has a fully developed department of Cardiac Electrophysiology with a dedicated electrophysiology laboratory. About 10000 cardiac catheterizations, 3000 angioplasties, 4000 cardiac surgeries, 300 catheter ablations, and 600device implantations (pacemakers and defibrillators) are performed annually at this hospital. Dr Saxena was among the first to start ICD and biventricular pacemaker implantation program in the country and these procedures are now performed routinely.

Professional Experience

Dr Saxena has worked for lastthirty-twoyears in Dept. of Cardiology at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi, in various positions, and is currently Executive Director of Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology. His primary interestlies in management of cardiac arrhythmias by catheter ablation and devices. He was involved in creation of the department of Cardiac Electrophysiology at FEHI since beginning in 1993. He has been performing electrophysiological studies and catheter ablation for various cardiac arrhythmias regularly for over twenty-seven years.

Dr Saxena was one of the first in the country to implant an ICD in 1995. Since then, he has beenimplanting various cardiac rhythm devices(Pacemakers, Defibrillators, CRT, Loop recorders) regularly, and hasone of the largest and longest experiences in the country. He was also involved in starting the biventricular pacing program for the first time in country and has one of the largest experience in this field. He has also been the pioneer in subcutaneous ICD implantation in India.
